About the Competition

Speech Trek Topic:  "Title IX: More than Athletics" 

AAUW of Michigan’s Speech Trek is designed to help high school students develop public speaking skills and a knowledge about public policy issues.  The 2016-2017 AAUW of Michigan M. Jean Jokippi Speech Trek Competition is open to all AAUW of MI branches wishing to host an event in their local community.  Speech Trek is open to all high schools.  The competition runs October 1, 2016 through March 1, 2017.  Branches must submit a DVD or MP4 of their winner’s speech to AAUW of Michigan by March 1, 2017 to qualify for the state competition.  A panel of judges will choose the state winner. 

Topic Background and Research

Students might also want to look at the Title IX policies at their school.  Information should be available on the school’s website. 

Students are to take a stand on a Title IX issue, thoroughly research the issue and present it in an impassioned, concise, convincing manner.
